Dear Council members, due to the anticipated community attendance, Our meetings on Friday night, October 1 (5 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.) and Saturday morning, October 2nd (9 a.m. – 1 p.m.) will be held in the McKinley School auditorium. Parking is available across the street in the Ad Building lot off of Oak Knoll.
There will be two community meetings during the week of October 4th. Monday October 4th will be at Eliot Middle School from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A second meeting will be at Wilson Middle School on Friday Ocober 8th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Translation services will be available at all meetings, Child care will also be available.
Please let you constituents know as best as possible of these changes. We are coming down to the decision point, which on Saturday, October 2nd the committee is tasked with narrowing down the school that would be recommended for closure.
Regarding the two Community Input Meetings – the format that is proposed is as follows: (Subject to some modification)
- Station Circulation
o Audience members will go to 4 stations: (30 minutes)
§ Station 1 – Map of existing attendance boundaries (large poster board)
§ Station 2 – Foundational documents (Board item closing schools, press release, charge, criteria, committee membership)
§ Station 3 – Committee process (large poster board)
§ Station 4 – Preliminary Recommendation (handout)
- Presentation
o District Staff will provide a brief overview of School Consolidation Needs (5 minutes)
o Committee Members will provide a presentation outlining the preliminary recommendations (10 minutes)
- Public Comments
o Audience Members will have a chance to offer comments after filling out a speaker card (1 hour, 15 minutes)
o Participants will also be able to provide written comments at the meeting for consideration and will also be reminded of the e-mail address where comments can later be sent
